1. Always look for the positives in every situation
Whatever life throws at you this year, before you get upset or start complaining, take a step back and think about the positives in the situation and/or in your life. For me, when I start to see myself complaining about the current situation I’m in, I like to look around and count my blessings.
When I start to complain about going to work, I stop and try to re-frame my mind to think positively. I’m so happy that I have great co-workers. I am so thankful to have an amazing boss. I’m thankful that I work only 5 minutes from my apartment. I am thankful I’m in a position that I really enjoy.
Taking a few seconds to recognize the positives in the situation can totally change your outlook on it. Remember, mindset is everything! Here are 15 things you can do right now to improve your mindset!
2. Spend time outdoors every day
Being in the sun and breathing in the fresh air is amazing for the mind, body and soul. I know it’s a lot easier to enjoy the outdoors in the summer or when the weather is nice! But, even in the winter, take the time to get outside.
Put on a heavy coat, a warm hat, gloves, and a scarf and take a walk around your neighborhood, go ice skating, play in the snow. Do something that gets you out in nature, just for a few minutes every day!
3. Walk 10-30 minutes every day
Walking is amazing! It clears your head, it allows you to slow down and take time for yourself, and it’s also great for your health. I always use my 30 minute lunch break to get up and walk around or I’ll go on an evening walk when the sun is setting. If you can’t walk outside because of the weather, you can always walk indoors or on the treadmill too!
4. Practice yoga/stretching
Both yoga and stretching are amazing for your mind, body and soul! These practices really allow you to slow your breathing, relax your mind, focus on balance and relieve any stress that you are carrying with you.
There are so many benefits to daily yoga practice and the more you do it, the more you’ll see those benefits in your life. Yoga is definitely an activity I want to incorporate into my daily routine more this year. I’m not the most flexible, but I love how yoga makes me feel so connected to my body and how I’m feeling!
5. Take time to reflect
Whether you want to write down your thoughts, capture your emotions through a photo, or just mentally think about the highs and lows, reflecting on your day is a great habit to get into. It allows you to really understand how you’re feeling emotionally, and learn from any mistakes you made and improve upon yourself as an individual!
6. Pray
I am a huge believer in the power of prayer. When in doubt, when in worry, when in fear, or loneliness, prayer is always the answer. Adding prayer into your morning or evening routine, before dinner, when you’re walking, while you’re driving, while you’re doing anything really can have such a powerful impact! It doesn’t have to take more than a few seconds and it can make a huge difference.
7. Write down 3 things you’re grateful for every day
My daily planner actually has a gratitude section at the top of the page, so for me, the first thing I do when I pull out my planner to make my to-do list, is write down three things I’m grateful for. If you have a physical planner, I encourage you to try this as well! You can even use the notes section on your phone or if you have a journal that you write in every day you can use that too!
Taking the time to recognize your blessings and everything God has given you really helps put things in perspective and makes you realize how much you have to be thankful for in your life.
8. Find a hobby or passion project that you love
Maybe it’s writing, knitting, speaking at conferences, reading, practicing yoga, biking, hand lettering, drawing; find what you’re passionate about and do it as often as you can! For me, it’s blogging. I love every aspect of it: planning content, taking photos, editing photos, writing posts, and everything that comes along with it! I could do it every single day, and I do, do it every day! That’s how much I love it. So find what that is to you.

9. Smile more 🙂
Smiling is contagious! When you smile more, you’ll not only feel happier on the inside, but the people around you will also feel it. And why not smile!? Life is so good!
10. Don’t take anything too seriously!
Laugh off your mistakes. Don’t hold a grudge. Learn that it’s okay to not be perfect (because perfect is boring)! And start living a more carefree lifestyle!
That is my advice for you! 🙂 And if you’re looking for inspiration and ideas on how to lead a healthier lifestyle this year, click here!
