8 Fat-Burning Activities to Try this Summer!

Are you looking for fun fat-burning activities and workouts to do this summer? Then, you’ve come to the right place! I am always looking for fun ways to get outside and stay active in the summer. I love activities that get your heart rate up, make you sweat and allow you to enjoy yourself all at the same time!

Burn tons of Calories with these activities

As much as I love to exercise, I love finding workouts that don’t actually feel like “working out.” It makes the time go by so much faster and it’s just more fun! In the summer, there are so many outdoor activities you can do to burn calories that you wouldn’t even think of as working out.

For example, swimming. When you go to the pool, you don’t think of that as exercise. You think of it as a fun summer activity that you can do with friends or family! Keep reading to learn my favorite (effective) fat-burning activities you can do this summer!

Here are 8 fat-burning activities to try this summer to get in shape, sweat a little, and have some fun in the sun!

1. Tennis

Tennis is such a fun sport and it can be relatively easy to learn if you’ve never played before. It works your entire body and burns major calories! I played tennis throughout high school and actually really miss playing competitively. It’s such a great way to get your workout in and it won’t even feel like exercise. Grab a friend and get out on the court!

2. Stand-up Paddle Boarding

Stand-Up Paddle Boarding is an awesome full-body, low impact workout that will work various muscles at the same time, strengthen your core, and will improve your balance. This is on my bucket- list to complete this summer!

My roommate and I did Paddle Board Yoga a few weekends ago and it was amazing! It wasn’t as hard as you would think to balance on the board, it was actually very stable. Not once, did I feel like I was going to fall in. I still want to try actual Stand-Up Paddle Boarding (not just yoga).

3. Canoeing/Kayaking

If you’re looking for an awesome arm, shoulder, and back workout, you should definitely try canoeing or kayaking this summer! Both of these activities are extremely low impact, and can be as “intense” as you make them. I prefer to make them more of a leisure or fun activity, so that I can enjoy the scenery around me. It’s so peaceful being on the water and soaking up the sun.

4. Biking

Biking is easy on the joints, great for toning your quads and an awesome way to increase your stamina. I live in a city where biking is a major mode of transportation. There is a large percentage of people who bike to work, to class and just for fun.

If you live close enough to where you work, try biking to the office one day! You’ll get your work out in, before you even start your workday! And if you don’t live that close, try hitting the trails near where you live in the evening or on the weekend.

5. Running Outdoors

Running is such a great way to lose weight, relieve stress, boost/improve your mood, and stay healthy! I run outside after work every single day! Since we live right by two lakes, it’s absolutely beautiful! I actually look forward to my evening runs because I love getting to spend time outdoors and looking at the scenery!

If you are looking for ways to make running more fun and/or challenging try going to the beach and running in the sand, try running on different trails around your area, or go to a nearby lake and run, I promise the views will be amazing!

6. Outdoor Yoga

Yoga is a practice that I’m trying to incorporate into my routine more often! It’s super great for improving your flexibility and posture, strengthening your core, becoming more in tune with your body and reducing any stress or tension you may have. Since the weather is so beautiful now, try signing up for an outdoor yoga class in the park or at the beach! Switching up the scenery and taking your workout outdoors can have positive impacts on your mood and make you feel more in tune with the Earth. You’ll also get a healthy dose of Vitamin D!

7. Roller-Blading

When was the last time you went roller-Blading? I’m guessing it’s probably been years! Roller-Blading is one of those activities that you forget about, but it can be such a great work out! And you won’t even feel like you’re exercising! It’s a fun activity you could do with your family, friends or by yourself!

8. Join a Rec Sports League

Joining a recreational volleyball, softball, dodge ball, or other sports league can be a fun way to get together with friends and socialize along with getting a great work out in. Obviously how many calories you burn is really dependent on the sport and how intense you make it, but either way rec leagues are super fun to do in the summer!

What’s your favorite way to stay active in the summer?
