Our Experience Working with Meredith Mutza Photography
To celebrate one year of marriage, my husband and I decided to book an anniversary photoshoot. We thought it would be such a special way to capture this milestone and re-live some of that newlywed magic.
I met Meredith a few months prior at a fun Milwaukee creatives event and we immediately connected! So, when our one year anniversary was approaching, I got in touch with Meredith to talk about a potential anniversary shoot.
From the start, Meredith made our entire experience feel so personal and special. It honestly felt more like spending time with a friend than posing for a photographer! She’s so warm, friendly and has this amazing way of making you feel instantly calm and at ease.

Planning our Couples Photoshoot
The first step in planning our photoshoot was an inquiry call with Meredith. Since we hadn’t worked with her before, it was the perfect way for all of us to connect and for her to walk us through her process. She talked through the details on pricing, the different image bundles she offers, and what sets her photography apart.
Once we officially booked, we scheduled the photoshoot date and set up a design consult. I loved this part because it gave us a chance to talk through all the details before shoot day! We covered everything from location ideas and outfit choices to specific shots we wanted, plus what types of prints and products we were thinking about afterward.
Our Milwaukee Couples Photoshoot
On the day of our photoshoot, we felt so relaxed and comfortable. All the details and shoot specifics had already been discussed, so we just got to show up and enjoy ourselves! It felt like Vilas and I were just having a date night and Meredith was snapping candid photos of us.
She is such an incredibly talented photographer, but what I love the most is her calming and encouraging energy. She has this incredible ability to connect with people and make them feel so comfortable in front of the camera. All three of us were laughing and joking around the entire time!
Throughout the shoot, Meredith continued to give us helpful direction on posing – where to put our hands, where to look, when to smile. It all felt really natural and made us feel more confident! She even helped fluff my dress and fix flyaways in my hair to make sure we always looked our best!
Honestly, the night flew by and we didn’t want it to end!
The Reveal Session: Seeing Our Full Gallery
The week after our photoshoot, we hopped on a video call with Meredith for our reveal session – it was such a special experience! After every session, Meredith schedules a virtual reveal to walk you through your full gallery. It’s a chance to re-live the shoot, share which images you love (and why!) and select the photos you want to purchase.
She then master retouches the purchased images to make them absolutely perfect for printing!
Sitting down together and seeing the final images for the first time was such a meaningful moment. Both Vilas and I couldn’t stop smiling.

Best Milwaukee Photo Locations for Couples Photos
When deciding on a location for our anniversary photoshoot, we knew we wanted a mix of greenery, possibly some architecture in the background, and if Lake Michigan could sneak into the shot too – even better! Spoiler alert – the Hank Aaron State Trail and the walking path behind Discovery World have all of that!
During our initial meeting with Meredith, we described our ideal location, sharing that we thought it would be fun to do more of a city-style shoot for our anniversary, since we had already done outdoor photos in park/lakeside settings for our engagement shoot and wedding.
However, we didn’t want the photos to be too Milwaukee-branded, if that makes sense.
Meredith immediately suggested the spot right behind Discovery World, near the Art Museum and Lakeshore State Park. As soon as we saw photos of the location, we were sold. This location gives you SO many urban and natural backdrops with a variety of views of Milwaukee all in one place.
You get views of the city, Lake Michigan, the Art Museum, boats passing by, the bridge overlooking Summerfest and the Lakeshort State Park Inlet. There’s even a large grassy area with tons of trees near the Summerfest entrance that’s great for portraits and nature-inspired shots.
The whole area is absolutely beautiful! I highly recommend it for any couples looking for the perfect engagement photoshoot spot that blends both city and nature.
Couples Photoshoot Outfit & Style Inspiration
It’s always so fun picking out the perfect outfit for photoshoots! I totally understand that it can be overwhelming though, if you’re trying to coordinate colors and make sure the outfits pair well together. So, to make it a bit easier, I always start by picking out my own outfit, and then basing my husband’s outfit off of mine.
For this couples photoshoot, since it was our one year wedding anniversary, we wanted it to be a little more formal. I recently ordered this blush pink tiered maxi dress in from Lulus and immediately knew I wanted to wear it for this shoot.
Honestly, I wasn’t sure what my husband should wear, so I consulted Meredith. She has multiple shoppable Style Guides for families, girls, and boys that share full outfit style inspo including accessories, all with clickable links so it’s super easy to shop.
