1. Add a Welcome Mat
Doormats are an in-expensive way to personalize your entryway. Lately, Iβve been loving the look of layering another larger rug underneath your doormat. I think it adds a little something and makes it more home-y. I even like to switch ours up each season! Itβs such a simple way to decorate your apartment. All the welcome mats Iβve listed below are between $10-20.
2. Kitchen Canisters
Kitchen counters can be hard to style. You want them to look nice, but still be functional. Adding a few canisters to a corner can totally elevate the look of your kitchen, but still provide you with storage. Would you believe me if I told you my white hobnail canisters below were $12 and less? I looked all over for THE perfect white canisters for our kitchen and I finally found these! When I saw they were $10 and $12 for a medium and large size, I bought them immediately.
3. Decorative Baskets
Who doesnβt love a good decorative basket? We have ours in our living room to store a few blankets, but they can be used in so many ways in every room in your home! You can obviously use them for storage, but you can also add in a cute throw pillow with a blanket draped over the side of the basket as decor. Or even use the basket as a plant holder! There are so many cute ways to style them.
4. Hang a Gallery Wall
If you have an empty wall in your apartment or home, consider adding a 3×3 gallery wall of your best photos. These rectangle frames are 7.99 and look beautiful! For a more cohesive gallery, print all your photos in black and white. We are planning to hang a gallery wall above our couch in our living room!
5. Small Rugs and Runners
Large area rugs can be pretty expensive, so if youβre on a tight budget, I wouldnβt recommend buying a new rug for your living room. Try adding in smaller 2×3 rugs or runners in different areas of your home that arenβt as large as your living room. You could add a smaller rug by your sink or stove, in the kitchen, in your entryway, etc. Smaller rugs are much more affordable and can give your home that warm and home-y feel.
All the rugs shown below are sold in all different sizes!
6. Switch up your Throw Pillows
Throw pillows are the best! They make it so easy to change the vibe of a room in a second. Itβs so fun to mix and match pillow patterns and prints to see what fits best with your style. Pillows are a fun and inexpensive way to decorate your apartment seasonally as well. Since theyβre so simple to switch in and out, you can mix up your pillows frequently! Iβll link a few of my favorite patterns below.
7. Coffee table books
You can add large books to your coffee table, your end table, your counters or nightstands. I like to buy mine from Homegoods, Marshallβs or Amazon because you can get them for half the price compared to other stores! Buy two or three, layer them, and add a cute plant on top! This is just another super simple way to give your apartment a more styled look.
8. Re-purpose Mason Jars
Mason jars and other bottles you have around your house can actually be used as cute decor! I have painted a few of mine and used them as makeup brush holders, pencil holders and planters. You could even use them to hold your kitchen utensils, cotton pads, or bathroom essentials. There are so many ways you could repurpose your old jars. You just have to get creative!
9. Labels for Every Room
Labels make everything prettier and more organized. And theyβre so affordable! I love adding labels to all of my bathroom containers and kitchen canisters along with other storage containers I have around our apartment. Labels are such a simple way to organize and add an element of decor to your place at the same time. I got these labels off Amazon for less than $15 and theyβre my favorite!
10. Hang Curtains
If your blinds are out-dated and not aesthetically pleasing to the eye, hang curtains in your apartment. Adding in curtains/drapes can immediately transform your apartment from dull to beautiful! But, make sure you hang them correctly!
Counter to what you may think, you actually shouldn’t hang your curtain rod right above the window frame. Hanging the rod higher (close to the ceiling) and having longer drapes will actually create the illusion of a higher ceiling. And I mean, who doesn’t want that!? Also, make sure your drapes are the correct length so they just sweep the floor!
