Supplies Needed for Rhinestone Canvas Art:

Step By Step Canvas Gem Art Tutorial

1. Once you’ve gathered all your materials start by finding a pattern or design you love. You can totally free draw something on the canvas, but if you’re not the best artist (like myself), you can find a design you like on Pinterest or Google. If you’re looking for my exact design, Google flower vase printable.

    2. Once you’ve found a design you like, print it, cut it out and trace it onto your canvas.

    3. Choose a section of the canvas that you want to start with and add clear glue directly to the canvas.

    4. Use a toothpick to pick up each individual gem and place it where you’d like on the canvas.

    It’s that easy!

      Canvas Gem Art Helpful Tips

Your rhinestone pack should come with a pair of tweezers, however it is SO much easier to use a toothpick to place the gems on your canvas. Dab some clear glue on the canvas, swirl the top of the toothpick in it, and use it to pick up each of the rhinestones. You’ll find that this will save you a lot of time!

Also, when buying your rhinestone pack, make sure to look at the sizing of the gems. I bought the 3mm rhinestones, but they also come in larger sizes. 3mm is pretty small, so if you know that you need to cover a large canvas, you can buy 4mm, 5mm or 6mm gems.

If you don’t want to order the individual supplies, you can also buy a gem art kit or diamond painting kits on Amazon. They include a pre-printed canvas, so you don’t have to print and then trace your design yourself.

I haven’t personally tried any diamond art kits before, but if you’re looking for a more advanced design vs. a beginner hand-traced pattern, that may be the route to go! But, totally up to you!

Let me know if you have any questions! This is such a fun craft that you can do with your girlfriends or by yourself. And it’s so easy to toss in a tote bag and take with you while you’re on the go!
