Ingredients You’ll Need
As I mentioned before, this recipe only takes 3 ingredients and you probably have most of these in your kitchen already!
- 1 Banana (ripe bananas work best if you have one on hand)
- 4 tbsp Peanut Butter (dog-friendly)
- 1.5 Cups of Plain Yogurt (non-fat)
In terms of yogurt, you can buy either buy plain non-fat yogurt, or non-fat Greek yogurt. Meijer’s only had the Greek yogurt in store, so that’s what I bought. Both work well and are safe for dogs!
Dog-Friendly Peanut Butter
When it comes to buying a pet-safe peanut butter, there are plenty of options to choose from! Of course, you can always go on Amazon and order a specific dog-friendly branded peanut butter like this one from Buddy Budder. They come in a variety of delicious flavors that your dog will love including Awesome Apple, Barking Banana, Pumpkin Pup and more.
However, they’re kind of expensive. If you want to save some money, we use Crazy Richard’s All-Natural Peanut Butter. It’s over $10 cheaper and the only ingredient is peanuts! If you opt for another brand, look for ones with only one ingredient, peanuts!
Make sure to avoid any peanut butters with Xylitol. It’s a sugar substitute that is toxic to dogs.
Dog Treat Instructions
I’ll keep the directions to make these delicious homemade frozen yogurt dog treats short and sweet!
- Add banana, peanut butter, and yogurt to blender or food processor
- Blend until smooth
- Pour mixture into ice cube tray (or cute silicone molds!)
- Freeze for 3-4 hours and remove from molds
- For any frozen treats not eaten, store in the freezer for up to 3 to 4 weeks
The blended yogurt mixture is pretty liquidy, so you may want to lay the silicone molds on a silicone baking sheet or some paper towel so it doesn’t make a mess. It should fill about three to four of these silicone molds.
Enhance your Homemade Yogurt Treats
One way to enhance your homemade yogurt dog treats is by adding sliced fruit to the silicone molds before freezing! The molds are pretty small though, so you’ll want to slice the fruit very finely.
Here’s a full list of dog-safe fruits! I reference this list all the time. The article also goes into detail on the health benefits of each fruit, serving size, and helpful tips on how to prepare them for your pup!
