In this post I’m sharing the best tips on how to get more done in a day. These tricks will help you feel less overwhelmed by your to do list and check off more tasks!
Do you ever feel like your to do list is so long that you donβt know where to start? Or maybe you feel overwhelmed because there isnβt enough time in the day to complete all the tasks on your list. Trust me, I’ve been there! For the longest time, I felt like I was one step behind and I hated that feeling!
So, I decided to try something different. Over the past few months, I’ve been testing out different productivity and time management hacks and I finally found a few that work! Now, I am able to get SO many more tasks checked off my to do list and feel satisfied with what I accomplished.
Keep reading for my top tips on how to get more done in your day!
1. Wake Up 30 minutes to 1 hour earlier
This may seem like a simple piece of advice, but it can be extremely hard to implement! Especially if you have a hard time waking up in the morning. But, if you can get yourself into the routine of waking up just 30 minutes earlier than usual, you’ll reap major benefits.
That’s thirty extra minutes you can use to organize your to do list, set your intentions for the day, journal, stretch or meditate, and get yourself into the right headspace for the day.
I’ve found that I’m more stress free, organized and on top of things when I give myself extra time in the morning! Try setting your alarm for 30 minutes earlier for one week and see how it makes you feel.
2. Write Down All the Tasks You Need to Complete for the Day
Get out your notebook, planner or piece of paper and write down EVERY single thing you have to get done for the day. And be specific! Make sure you include all the little tasks too like showering, working out or cleaning up the kitchen. Those take up time in your day and should be accounted for!
Once you write down your entire list, pick out your top three priorities for the day. These should be the tasks that without a doubt have to get done. Write those on the top of your notebook/planner and focus on getting those three tasks done first.

3. Time Block Your Entire Schedule
Time Blocking is a time management and productivity technique in which you divide up the tasks you need to complete into time segments throughout the day. You give each task a dedicated amount of time and only work on that task during the time block you designated.
This strategy gives you structure to your day and allows you to stay focused on one task at a time. Narrowing your attention to a singular task actually allows you to complete it faster because your mind isn’t thinking about multiple things at once.
I use Google Calendar to time block my day and organize my schedule! It’s a free resource and has been a game changer for my productivity.
4. Use a Timer!
Now that you’ve time blocked your entire day, use a timer to make sure you’re staying on track and only working during your set block of time. If you allotted 30 minutes of your schedule to answering emails, set your timer for 30 minutes and only work on answering emails during that time.
Do not check your phone, scroll social media or make food during this time. That 30 minutes is supposed to be undistracted and uninterrupted work. Put your phone on airplane mode or in another room and don’t check it until the time is up!
5. Utilize the 2 Minute Rule!
Ever heard of the 2 minute rule before!? It’s basically a rule that if a task takes less than 2 minutes, then you need to complete it immediately.
For example, tasks like making your bed, folding a blanket, putting your shoes away, etc. These are all things that take less than two minutes to complete. If you live by this rule, you won’t have to dedicate hours to cleaning up your room or hanging up clothes because you’ll continuously be completing tasks that only take you two minutes.
Trust me, this is going to save you so much time!
Good tips!
