Happy Sunday everyone! Today I thought I would take the time to update you on some pretty exciting things happening right now in my life!
As of January 16, I accepted a new job with an IT Staffing company in Madison! I am super excited to start at this company and begin my training to become a Technical Recruiter within the next few months. This opportunity came at such a perfect time for me and I couldn’t be more grateful! Honestly, I feel like this is exactly what I have been looking for and the perfect next move for my professional career!
Before I get into the specifics of my new job, I’ll back up a little and explain in more detail how I got into my previous role at the Med school and what my everyday job responsibilities were, just so you have an idea of the type of work that I have been doing!
So actually my first semester of senior year (September 2017) I got a new student job working as a Human Resources Administrative Assistant for the UW School of Medicine and Public Health. I was kind of like a personal assistant to the Director of Talent Management. I managed her time and calendar, created meetings agendas, scheduled room reservations and appointments, and basically acted as support to her and other HR staff.
It was fun and I enjoyed working in the Med School and getting to work with a variety of different people every day! I only worked there about 15 hours a week while I was going to school, which was perfect. It allowed me to really enjoy coming into work because I knew I only worked a few hours each day. I was able to go in, get my work done, and then leave before I started to get bored or run out of things to do!
After I worked there around 6 months, which was mid-February of last year, I talked with my supervisor about staying on after graduation.
They ended up extending an offer to me in April of 2018 for a Human Resources Assistant position. I accepted and began my new position in June!
As a HR Assistant I was supporting a variety of executives with calendar management and scheduling, assisting employee relations with FMLA and Worker’s Compensation documentation, helping with Leadership visits when we had candidates come in for on-site interviews, providing recruitment assistant including resume screening, conducting phone and in-person interviews, performing background checks, and managing interview logistics, and basically any other task that the HR office needs help with. It was basically a catch-all position, so I had the opportunity to experience working in all different areas of HR.
So up until now, that is what I have been doing! I worked 7:30am-4pm Monday-Friday and was able go home and leave all my work at work. It really was such a great first (post-college) job!
I learned so much by being able to dabble in different areas of HR! I figured out what aspects of the industry I liked and didn’t like and was able to build up my resume at the Med School.
I am really going to miss my supervisor and all the wonderful people that I met throughout my year and a half at the Med School, but I know this new position is a step in the right direction for pursuing my career goals.
My new position at Teamsoft It Staffing will focus on sourcing and junior recruiter types of responsibilities, which will equip me with the knowledge to move up to a full Technical Recruiter within a couple months. So the role that I will be in to begin with will be a lot of hands on training with the Recruiting Manager and other Recruiters to get me up to speed on how Teamsoft recruits for open positions!
What I’m most exciting for about this position is that the role I’m starting out in is brand new to the company, which means I have the opportunity to create my own path and take ownership of it. I’m really looking forward to all the training and learning that I will get to do within these first couple months! This is exactly the type of Recruiting role that I have been looking for in my professional career.
My passion for recruiting really began when I got a job as a Recruiting Ambassador for the Wisconsin Union as a college student. I also worked there up until I graduated and loved every second of it.
Getting the opportunity to meet new people every day, helping individuals find jobs that they love, interviewing candidates, reviewing resumes, and tabling at career fairs are just some of the aspects I love about recruiting.
It is so rewarding. I love that every day is different and with that brings new challenges. Recruiting is very fast paced and competitive and I feel like I really thrive in that environment, which is why I am so excited to start at Teamsoft!
My first day will be on February 11 and my last day with the Med school will be January 31. During the week off in between, I plan on going back to Milwaukee to visit my family and take a break from working! I’m looking forward to a mini vacay before I dive right into my new role!
On another exciting note! Since my new company is 15 minutes away from my apartment, I needed to figure out how I would get there transportation wise. I could take the Madison city bus, but it would take me 40 minutes one way to get there. I just didn’t want to do that every single day. Mainly because the bus makes me so sick with all the stops it makes!
So, as of this past weekend I am a proud owner of a 2018 Nissan Rogue!! Ahh I am beyond excited! This has been my dream car for a long time and I’m just thrilled that I was able to save up enough money to purchase it myself.
Driving it home from the dealership was so weird! To think that I actually own a car is shocking! For 22 and a half years I had been driving one of my parents’ vehicles if I needed to go somewhere or taking the city bus (in Madison). I am just beyond grateful for my job, my education, and everything God has given me to allow me to make this purchase. It is such a wonderful feeling.
And I also just want to say how thankful I am to all of you who read my blog every week. It means the world to me and I am beyond grateful for all your kind comments and messages! 🙂 You all are so amazing!
If you made it to the end of this post, thank you! I know it was kind of long haha, but I had so much to say and update you on!
I will keep you all posted on how the new job is going once I start in a couple weeks! I will probably do a new blog post on how I’ve been liking the job and what I’ve been working on within the first one to two months of being there!
Love you all 🙂 Have an amazing week!
