The Fall wedding season is upon us! It’s time to say goodbye to your bright, flowy, summer dresses and hello to moody floral prints, rich jewel tones, and heavier fabrics for fall. In this post, I’m rounding up all the best dresses to wear to a fall wedding for a guest – fun minis, floor length gowns and cocktail dresses for every budget!

What to Wear to a Fall Wedding
Before you start shopping for a wedding guest dress, make sure you know the dress code. Usually it’s listed on the wedding invitation or on the couple’s wedding website. Obviously, you would dress differently to a rustic barn wedding vs. a black tie affair. So, it’s important to know the dress code so that you don’t show up over or under dressed.
You’ll also want to take the weather into consideration. Fall weather can be totally unpredictable (at least here in the Midwest), so it’s usually best to bring a jacket. Whether that’s a shawl, a faux fur jacket, a wool blend coat or a leather jacket, it’s totally up to you!
When it comes to colors, textures and materials of dresses, fall wedding guest attire is usually associated with thicker materials, plush velvet and satin. The colors this season are pretty similar to what we saw last year – olive green, navy blue, magenta, marigold, burgundy and other moody hues.
Where to Shop for the Best Wedding Guest Dresses
A few of my favorite retailers to shop for wedding guest dresses include: Lulus, Abercrombie, Petal and Pup, Amazon and VICI. You can find plenty of fall wedding guest dresses for under $100 here. Most are even less (around $55-$75).
Out of those, Lulus is probably my favorite. I always find the best dresses here! They have a huge selection of cocktail dresses, floor-length gowns, trendy pieces and classic dresses. They’re also really good at re-stocking dresses if they sell out.
You guys know how much I love Abercrombie too, however sometimes the dresses sell out fast. So, if your size is in stock make sure to grab it! Revolve and Nordstrom have some really great options too if you’re willing to spend a little more.
In terms of jewelry and accessories, I love CANVAS for affordable, trendy pieces; Kendra Scott for classic, timeless jewelry; and Kinsley Armelle for a good bracelet stack.

One-Shoulder Cutout Maxi
I’m planning to wear this dress to a formal wedding we have at the end of the month! It fits amazing, the cutouts are so flattering and I love the high slit. With a pair of heels on, the dress just grazes the floor, making it the perfect length.

Satin Pleated Cutout Maxi
I shared this pleated cutout dress earlier this Summer when I styled tons of Abercrombie Event Dresses! I own it in the dark pink color and it’s just gorgeous! I LOVE the cut outs on the side and the pleats!
Abercrombie just released ALL their new Fall colors in this dress and they’re gorgeous. There’s a total of nine color options that you can choose from!
Olive Green Satin Asymmetrical Midi Dress
If you are attending a formal wedding this Fall, this satin assymetrical midi is the perfect option! I’m calling it right now, olive green will be the IT color this season. It’s a color that looks good on all skin tones and it’s very sophisticated.
I think we will also be seeing a lot of high necklines this Fall. I just ordered this dress, so I could try it out and I’ll update you on my thoughts!
Black Strapless Jumpsuit
This strapless black jumpsuit has been one of my best sellers for months now! It is SO flattering on. The length is perfect, I’m 5’6″ and ordered the XS and the jumpsuit just grazes the floor. No alterations were needed!
The best part, the jumpsuit has a silicone lining along the top, so it stays in place without slipping down. I wore it to a formal event last Spring and it did not move the entire night!
Asymmetrical Pleated Magenta Midi
This color is so trendy right now, especially with the release of the Barbie movie! There are so many fun pink and magenta dresses this season! We’ve also been seeing a lot of pleated detailing in dresses, which I surprisingly love.
This pleated magenta midi dress is just stunning. It has more of a relaxed fit, so if you’re in between sizes, consider sizing down. Straps are adjustable!
Mock Neck Satin Maxi Dress
This Amazon mock neck satin maxi is SO similar to the Lulus dress I shared above, but less expensive! This is another great option if you have a formal wedding to attend.
I love this green color, but the dark wine red and blue are just as stunning. There are 32 colors to choose from!
Mock Neck Satin Mini
This sleeveless mock neck mini is an Amazon find and under $50! It comes in so many color variations, and is so versatile. You’ll be able to wear this dress over and over again for all different events; whether it’s a cocktail party, date night, or Fall wedding.
Sleeveless Pleated Halter Mini
If you’re looking for a fun, flowy mini, this sleeveless pleated halter dress is so cute! It’s looser fitting, so you won’t have to worry about it being too tight around your waist, and it’s bump-friendly!
Black Ruched Mock Neck Mini Dress
You can never go wrong with a little black dress. This one is under $50 too, so if you’re looking for a budget-friendly option, this is perfect! Dress it up a bit with a pair of gold statement earrings and your favorite pair of heels.
Black One-Shoulder Maxi
I recently got this one-shoulder dress and WOW is it stunning! It’s the perfect length (I’m 5’6″ and with heels the dress doesn’t touch the floor) and it fits true to size (I ordered the XS).
I just love the fit of it. It’s so flattering and looks so classy. I wore it last Winter to my brother’s rehearsal dinner, but it would be beautiful for any formal weddings!
Ruched Surplice Maxi Dress
I am OBSESSED with this color! This maxi dress comes in a super comfy, stretch knit fabric that will show off your physique – in a good way! Plus it’s slimming and will hug you in all the right places. You will feel amazing in this one!
Cowl Neck Satin Midi
This dress just screams Fall to me! The color rust is so popular right now, but if orange isn’t your favorite, it comes in a beautiful navy blue and emerald green too. It has a stunning asymmetrical hem and thin adjustable straps on both sides.
Burgundy Lace Wide-Leg Jumpsuit
Clearly, bold colors are IN for autumn weddings! This chic jumpsuit comes in both burgundy and black and features a lace back that’s sexy, but elegant.
I’m a huge fan of jumpsuits because they are so comfortable and so flattering on everyone!
Black Backless Midi Dress
How gorgeous is this black midi dress? I love the long sleeves and open back! It would be so great for an outdoor wedding or early winter wedding – just add a faux fur jacket to stay warm.
One-Shoulder Asymmetrical Midi Dress
Turn heads with this gorgeous one shoulder, navy blue cocktail dress. Featuring adjustable straps, lightweight fabric and a classy slide slit, this is the perfect dress for any formal event.
Heavenly Hues Maxi Dress
THIS dress. It’s universally flattering on all body types and the fabric is such great quality. It comes in over 15 different colors and I’m actually thinking of ordering it in white for a few of our engagement photos!
Some notes on sizing – it does run long, so if you’re shorter you may have to have it hemmed. If you’re concerned about the deep-v cut, I’d recommend using fashion tape to secure the dress in place!

If you’re on a tight budget, Amazon has some amazing wedding guest dresses. This chiffon halter dress is definitely one of my top picks. I love the neckline and color! It comes in over 20 patterns/colors and is under $45.

This might be one of my FAVORITE dresses. I seriously love everything about it, especially the color. It’s at a bit of a higher price point, but totally worth the splurge. If you have a few weddings to go to this season, you can wear this dress a few times!
Halter Neck Black Dress
Cocktail attire required for the event? You’ll love this halter, cowl neckline black mini. Comes in 5 colors and is sure to impress.
If it’s a cooler night, bring a wool blend coat to throw on in case you get cold.
Cassini Dress
Headed to a formal fall wedding or special event this season? This one shoulder, hammered satin dress is the perfect choice. I love the ruched detailing!

Satin Maxi Dress
I can’t get over how pretty this burnt orange color is! Recently, I’ve been obsessed with the look satin dresses. They’re so elegant and classy.
The dress comes in a few different colors, and is a bit longer, so I recommend wearing heels. If you plan on wearing flats, you might have to hem it a bit.
