Best Modern and Cheap Fall Decorating Ideas from Target (2021)

Who’s ready for Fall!? Whether you’re ready or not, Fall is on it’s way and so is all the seasonal decor! This post is going to share all my favorite cute, but cheap Fall decorating ideas to make your home super warm and cozy this autumn. All of the decor I’m going to share below is from one of my favorite stores.. Target!

Target has started to roll out their Fall decor and I am HERE for it! All the chunky knit blankets, fall-scented candles, textured pillows, ceramic vases, faux pumpkins.. it’s all so cute! Over the years, Fall has definitely become one of my favorite seasons. Being a homebody, decorating and creating a cozy, welcoming home brings me so much joy!

I will say, I’m not a huge fan of the “in your face” Halloween decor with the bright orange pumpkins and light up figurines. Personally, I prefer a more muted, neutral and traditional look – bringing in texture and warmth through knit blankets and patterned pillows, adding in pops of burnt orange and yellow (but not over-doing it), swapping out candles for a more “fall” scent and changing up our floral arrangements.

I hope this post inspires you to create create a cozy space that you love coming home to!

Cheap Fall Decorating Ideas

Chunky Knit Blankets

I love curling up on the couch, hot cocoa or Pumpkin Spice Latte in hand, with a candle lit and throw blanket wrapped around me. Adding in knit blankets is such an easy way to transition your home from summer to fall. They’re affordable and make your home feel more cozy!

I like to drape a blanket over our sectional in the living room and swap out the blanket I have on display in our a wicker basket!

Candles

The Fall candle scents are always the best! Target just released a few new candles for the Fall season and you’re going to want these for your home. Harvest Spice and Autumn Wreath are two of the best ones! They’ll make your entire house smell like Fall.

Throw Pillows

Just like throw blankets, pillows are another great way to easily transition your home from season to season. They’re easy to swap out and can give your home an entirely different feel depending on the color, pattern and texture. Geometric prints are very in right now btw! To spice up your home for Fall, you can try mixing and matching a few different colors, pillow sizes and textures together. I always go for the muted orange, brown, and cream color scheme.

If you struggle with pairing pillows together, start by choosing three colors. The colors can be pulled from the room and furniture (the couch, decor pieces, frames, the rug, walls, etc.) Having a general color scheme to go off of will be so beneficial and make shopping a bit easier! Remember, all your pillows don’t have to be the same color or print to “match” or complement each other!

Switch things up and play around with different patterns and sizes until you find ones that feel like you!

Decorative Vases

Swap out your light and airy vases for some darker, earthy tones. I really love the distressed ceramic vases that Target recently launched. They come in four different sizes ranging from $4.99-$12.99 (so again, super affordable)!

I like that these vases can be used year round and it’s easy to add different artificial stems to them to create an entirely different look. For Fall, I’m really loving these wheat grass stems ($3.99)!

Miniature Pumpkins

You can’t decorate for Fall without some faux pumpkins, am I right!? This set of fake pumpkins (4 large and 6 small pumpkins) makes it easy to add some Fall decor to your home without much effort. You can create a beautiful table centerpiece with these, add them to your front porch, place a few on your fireplace mantel, or even try a diy project with them!

Your decoration options with pumpkins are limitless!

Decorative Baskets

My favorite thing about baskets is that they can be used year round! It’s easy to swap out blankets, toss in a throw pillow, or use them as decor under console tables. It also is the perfect way to hide toys and miscellaneous items in your home. Decorative and practical!

This natural seagrass basket is one of the best ones I’ve found! It’s $34 and the perfect size!!

Welcome Mats and Porch Decor

Spruce up your porch by adding a fall-inspired door mat by the front door! There’s so many cute ones out this year – this one is probably my favorite! You can even layer another rug underneath the welcome mat to add some extra color and style to your porch area and give it a truly welcoming feel.

To complete your Fall porch decor – add some mums, a beautiful fall wreath like this one, some decorative lanterns and a few real or plastic pumpkins!

Faux Flowers and Seasonal Arrangements

I’m a huge fan of decorating with seasonal arrangements and flowers! I love the look of real flowers, but if you’re looking for a more cost effective option that you can reuse over and over again, fake flowers are the way to go! There are so many cute Fall arrangements at Target.

Personally, I love purchasing pre-made floral arrangements because it’s just easier LOL. But, if you’re looking for an even cheaper route, head to your local thrift store or dollar store to find a vase and faux flowers or stems to create your own!

Fall Tablescape

I can’t wait for the day that we own a large dining room table that I can decorate for all the seasons! I have so many ideas for cute Fall tablescapes, but unfortunately we don’t have space for a table in our apartment.. one day!

For those of you with a full kitchen or dining room table, this ribbed tassel table runner in pumpkin brown is perfect for Fall. You can add in these seasonal striped woven napkins, an assortment of small and medium white pumpkins, these black metal candle holders, and these stoneware dinner plates for a festive look this season.

And for those of you in an apartment (like us), you can still decorate your kitchen counter area with placemats (I love these woven round mats), beautiful stoneware plates, and small decorative items (these ceramic vases would look great on any counter)!

More Stores to Buy Inexpensive Fall Decor

So obviously, all the home decor I just shared is from Target. The seasonal items they bring out each year get better and better. Especially the Studio McGee and Magnolia collection – that’s where most of our decor is from! But, I also love shopping for Fall and seasonal decor at Hobby Lobby, the Dollar Tree, Marshall’s, TJ Maxx, At Home, craft stores like Joann’s or Michael’s or our local grocery store (for seasonal flowers).

At Home probably has the largest selection of decor, but it definitely can be super overwhelming because there is SO MUCH there. Like honestly so much stuff LOL. You kind of have to know the aesthetic and decor pieces you’re looking for before going in.

You can also check out a few thrift stores for unique or vintage decor finds. I’m not the best at thrifting, but I know there’s a ton of gems there.

I hope this post brought you tons of inspiration and gave you a few cheap Fall decorating ideas that you can incorporate throughout your home!
