Weekly Date Night Jar Ideas

Sharing a few of our favorite date night ideas and how you can DIY your own Date Night Jar!

So many of you have loved following along with our weekly date nights on Instagram, so I thought I’d put together a post sharing how we made our date night jar and how you can create your own!

My fiancé and I started doing weekly date nights in January of 2022 as a way to spend more quality time together and try new restaurants and activities in our area. It was one of the best things we did! At the end of the year, it was so cool to look back and see all the different things we did together.

We’ve been dating for what seems like forever now, and it’s easy to fall into the habit of getting home from work, going to workout, watching something on Netflix and then going to bed. When that happens, it can start to feel like you’re just roommates.

That’s why we thought it would be fun to start planning regular date nights! We do ours every Wednesday night and we draw from our weekly date night jar that we made together. I’ll share exactly how we made ours below!

Why make a date night jar?

Having a date night jar with tons of pre-determined date ideas, just makes date nights SO much easier! You don’t have to constantly come up with new date night ideas each week, it allows both of you to get out of your comfort zones a little bit, try new things and it makes you prioritize date nights with your significant other.

Plus, if you’re tired of always going out to dinner or going to see a movie, a date night jar will mix things up for you and force you to think outside of the box!

So far this year, my fiancé and I have gone to a local wine bar, we’ve had a Nintendo Switch games competition and planned a cocktail-making night! Having this jar, has definitely stepped up our date night game. Every week, we look forward to drawing from the jar to see what we get to do together!

Supplies You’ll Need

Here are a few of the supplies that you’ll want to have on hand to make your date night jar!

  • Mason Jar
  • Popsicle sticks (or a piece of paper)
  • Markers, pens or pencils

You can buy everything at your local craft store, or you can DIY it with whatever supplies you have at home. We made ours with one of the Mason jars we had on hand and we cut up pieces of paper to write our date night ideas on.

We divided our date night ideas into two different categories, free and paid. This way we we get a good mix of activities that require money vs. ones that don’t. We wrote all our free date night ideas on white paper and all the paid ideas on pink paper.

It’s totally up to you on how you want to organize your list of ideas! You could categorize them by outdoor and indoor date nights, seasonal date ideas, etc. If you have a lot of different categories, you can take it a step further and color the ends of popsicle sticks to organize your ideas too!

And for those of you who don’t care for a DIY project, you can always buy these date night idea cards on Amazon.

Brainstorming more Date Night Jar Ideas

If you need help coming up with more creative ideas, it helps to think about the upcoming holidays. What activities could you do around them? Since Valentine’s Day is coming up, I’ll use that as an example! You could watch a Rom-Com together, you could attend a chocolate and wine pairing class, you could make Valentine’s Day cookies, put together a dessert board, etc. There are so many great ideas I can think of!

This also would make a really great gift idea for your anniversary, Valentine’s Day or even a bridal shower! Who wouldn’t love a year of date night ideas!?

All in all, I hope this post inspired you to make your own date night jar, either with your significant other, your best friend or even your roommates! It’s a great way to try new things and spice things up!
